Virtual interview or traditional face to face interview.

Today someone asked me what I thought about video interviewing vs face to face.

This got me thinking, so I thought I would share my thoughts.

Early 2020 video interviewing became the norm, and quite honestly essential for almost every company when face to face job interviews were suddenly unable to happen due to social distancing.

Having read various articles and had various discussions with numerous clients over the months, I think a combination of the two interviewing methods will be the way recruiting and hiring is done when we can finally say that we are ‘post-pandemic’.

I also think it will very much depend on what type of recruiting is being done. Virtual interviewing is certainly beneficial for high-volume recruiting and indeed initial interviews or for those more remote roles. For the more senior hires, they may start online, but then at some point you would probably want to have the person to person engagement. Hiring for those roles is a big investment and I am sure given the option both parties would opt to meet in person.

Time will tell of course.
